RENT – Still Going Strong

RENT is one of the first and few musicals I’ve seen; saw it right here in Boston at the Wilbur Theatre.   Until then, the only other “rock opera” I had heard of was “Tommy” by The Who (1969).   Of course, many other hugely successful rock operas have come along the way since, but RENT remains a relevant piece because it addressed serious current issues.  It was a great example of art as a vehicle to start a dialogue on controversial topics.

RENT made its debut in 1994 (nearly twenty years ago already!) and it’s still an inspiring work for musical programs.   Our network partner, Eagle Rock (in Colorado) presents this iconic production:
