Dean’s Set List: Stella By Starlight

This episode of the Dean’s Set List features students from three Berklee City Music Network sites performing “Stella by Starlight” by Victor Young.  The band features City Music Summer Scholars Drew Anderson on trumpet from the Richmond Youth Jazz Guild, Max Castro on congas from the Boys & Girls Harbor, Emilio Mendez on piano and Miguel Santana-Morales on upright bass from Escuela de Bellas Artes de Carolina.

The Dean’s Set List features students from around the Berklee City Music Network performing in theoffice of our Dean, Dr. Krystal Banfield.  In order for a student to be selected they must fulfill certain criteria pertaining to their academic standing, Berklee City Music standing, involvement in their community, and musicianship.  It is a musical Dean’s List.

Our next episode of the Dean’s Set List features students from four Berklee City Music Network sites performing Bill Wither “Just the Two Us” made famous on his recording with Grover Washington, Jr.  The band features Thomas Stewart on vocal from Campus Club Milledgeville, Jonathan Acevedo on tenor saxophone from Escuela de Bellas Artes de Carolina, Joshua Sutherland on keys from City Music Boston, and Larry Monroe on guitar, Antonio Robinson on electric bass, and Cameron Cephas on percussion from The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz and Performing Arts.

This episode of the Dean’s Set List features Madison Denbrock on voice and Michael Gloria on piano from the Phoenix Conservatory of Music and Grace Mann on voice, Antonio Shiell-Loomis on guitar, and Moses Abraham on electric bass from City Music Boston.  They are performing “Message in a Bottle” by The Police.

Dean’s Set List: So What (Season 2: EP1)

It’s the start of a new Berklee Five-Week Summer Performance Program and there are Berklee City Music Summer Scholars from all over the country attending.  During the Five-Week Program we record students who are featured on the Dean’s Set List.

To start off season 2 our first episode features John Michael Bradford  on Trumpet from Tipitina’s Foundation, Yesseh Furaha-Ali on tenor saxophone from The Philadelphia Clef Club of Jazz & Performing Arts, Ayinde Williams on piano from Richmond Youth Jazz Guild, and Daniel Winshall on bass from City Music Boston performing Miles Davis “So What.”

Dean’s Set List: Heather Worden

Our next Dean’s Set List episode features Heather Worden from our member Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Midland, Pennsylvania outside of Pittsburgh.  She is performing her original song “Drowning in Her.”

Heather was a Berklee City Music Summer Scholar in 2013 and received a full-tuition scholarship from Berklee City Music to attend Berklee College of Music and is currently in her second semester.

Dean’s Set List: Quinton Monteiro, Isaiah Hill, and Larry Baeder

This month’s episode of the Dean’s Set List features Quinton Monteiro from Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center in Midland, PA, Isaiah Hill from Little Five Points Music Center in Atlanta, GA, and Larry Baeder from Bahama Village Music Program in Key West, FL.  Quinton and Isaiah are students who were City Music Summer Scholars in 2013 and attended the Berklee Five-Week Summer Performance Program.  Larry Baeder is a faculty and board member at his Berklee City Music Network site who attended the PULSE Training Institute that took place during our summer programming.  They are performing Stephanie Mills’ “Home.”

Dean’s Set List: Emilio Mendez, Erica Parra, and Gabriel Rivera

This month’s Dean’s Set List video takes us to Puerto Rico and Harlem featuring Latin music performed by Erica Parra from the Boys & Girls Harbor, and Emilio Mendez and Gabriel Rivera from de Escuela De Bellas Artes De Carolina.

All three students were City Music Summer Scholars this past summer when the episode was recorded.  Erica Parra was senior in high school and received a full-tuition scholarship to Berklee College of Music from Berklee City Music, and Emilio, a junior in high school, received a $14,000 scholarship from Berklee College of Music.

These three young talented musicians had never rehearsed together before, and made up everything on the spot.  We hope you enjoy.
